According to a revelation by The Wall Street Journal , published on May 2, US President Donald Trump proposed, during a forty-five-minute telephone conversation on April 16, to his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum , the sending of American troops to fight drug trafficking. A proposal that the head of state immediately rejected.
Twenty-four hours after the publication of the article, during a presidential visit to Texcoco (State of Mexico), Sheinbaum echoed the revelation published by the American daily, confirming the proposal made by his counterpart last month, reports Contralínea .
She then publicly relayed Trump's question: "What can we do to help you in the fight against drug trafficking? I suggest we send the American army." True to her sovereignist rhetoric, the Mexican president claimed to have answered him:
